Spain wins Algarve Cup

Irene Paredes, Veronica Boquete, Virginia Torrecilla and Vicky Losada won Algarve Cup 2017

Four Spanish Women’s National Team players represented by LTA Agency have become winners of the 12-team Algarve Cup international tournament held in Portugal from 1st to 8th March.

First-time participant, Spain defeated Canada 1-0 in the final. Defender, Irene Paredes (25) who played 90 minutes of the final and Spain captain Vero Boquete (29) are club teammates both playing for Paris Saint-Germain in French Top Division. 23-year-old midfielder, Virginia also plays in France for Montpellier Herault SC. Vicky Losada (26) currently plays for FC Barcelona and was featured in all Spain matches at the Algarve Cup.

The tournament triumph will serve as a good warm-up for Spain’s campaign in next summer’s UEFA Women’s EURO finals hosted by the Netherlands.

Other players represented by LTA who participated at the Algarve Cup 2017:

Denmark: Line Røddik Hansen and Sofie Junge Pedersen. They finished 3rd in the tournament.

Sweden: Hedvig Lindahl, Linda Sembrant, Emma Berglund, Caroline Seger and Olivia Schough.

Iceland: Glódís Perla Viggósdóttir who earned her 50th national team cap in the last match against China.

Portugal: Raquel Infante and Carolina Mendes.

A total of 14 players from 5 different teams who played at the Algarve Cup 2017 are currently represented by LTA Agency.

Spanish international, Irene Paredes has signed a two-year contract extension with Paris Saint-Germain (PSG).

The 25-year-old defender joined the French highfliers in July last year from Athletic Bilbao where she won the Spanish championship. She has featured in most PSG matches this season and has scored 4 goals so far. She is excellent in the air and extremely good in defense. According to her club, she has confirmed her status as one of the best defenders in the world, and she has also been nominated for the inaugural 2016 Women’s World XI by FIFPro.

As part of the Spanish National Team, Irene has played at the 2013 UEFA Women’s Euro and 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup earning close to 40 caps thus far.

The 24-year-old Cameroonian international forward Gaelle Enganamouit has signed a contract with Dalian Quanjian FC of China’s Women’s Super League.

Gaelle joined Swedish top league – Damallsvenkan 3 years ago and last season played with Malmö powerhouse FC Rosengård with whom she won the Swedish Cup and the Swedish Super Cup and finished as 2016 Damallsvenkan runner-up.

Prior to Rosengård, the international striker played with another Swedish outfit, Eskilstuna United where she became the 2015 Best Damallsvenkan goal scorer with 18 goals while Eskilstuna finished second in the league and qualified for the UEFA Women’s Champion League for the first time in club’s history. The same year, Gaelle became the first Cameroonian female player to win the CAF Africa Women’s Player of the Year award.

As a key member of Cameroon Women’s National team, Gaelle became finalist of the recent CAF Africa Women’s Cup of Nations hosted by her home country. She has earned 43 caps and scored 12 goals so far for her country in various international competitions. The highlights include the hat-trick she scored against Ecuador at the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Canada as well as two final appearances at the CAF Africa Cup of Nations in 2014 and 2016 and the 2012 London Olympic Games.

The 31-year-old Australian international midfielder, Aivi Luik, won the 2017 Australian Championship, her second in a row and her 3rd overall W-League title.

Aivi featured in every Melbourne City league match this season scoring 1 goal. She was key in the 1:0 semi-final win over Canberra United, and she also played 90 minutes in the W-League Grand Final last Sunday. In front of the record crowd at the NIB Stadium, Melbourne City defeated Perth Glory 2-0 to win the W-League for the second consecutive time and became the first team in nine seasons history of Westfield W-League to win back-to-back championships.

Prior to Melbourne City, Aivi won W-League title with Brisbane Roar in 2010/2011 season and was a runner-up in 2009/2010. She has also won titles in Denmark and the USA previously.

Portugal National Team striker, Carolina Mendes has joined Grindavik FC of Top Division in Iceland (Úrvalsdeild)

The 29-year-old striker comes from Djurgårdens IF(Stockholm) in Swedish Top League-Damallsvenskan. Prior to that, the Portuguese international  played for a top Russian club Rossiyanka with whom she was the Runner-up of 2015 Women’s Supreme Division.

Carolina has already earned 54 caps for Portugal National Team scoring 9 goals so far. She has helped Portugal to qualify for the 2017 UEFA Women’s Euro Final Tournament in the Netherlands.

The 22-year-old midfielder comes from Kristianstads DFF in Sweden where she became best player in 2015 with 9 goals in15 matches played.

Prior to Kristianstads DFF, Rebecca played for Onze Soeurs de Gagnoa of Ligue 1 in Cote D’Ivoire.

Rebecca earned close to 30 caps for Cote D’Ivoire Women’s National Team scoring three goals.

She represented her country in the historic first appearance at the group stage of 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup final tournament in Canada.

She won the Bronze medal at the African Games 2015 held in Congo and another bronze medal at the 2014 CAF Africa Women’s Championship in Namibia.

Rebecca also represented her country at the 2012 CAF African Women’s Championship in Equatorial Guinea.

Swedish National Team defender, Linda Sembrant (‘Sempan’) has extended her contract with a French top side Montpellier Hérault Sport Club (MHSC).

Current MHSC captain, Sempan (29) joined the club 2.5 years ago and proved an instant success starting every league match and playing a key role in the team solidifying the defense and adding 7 goals scored in 61 matches to date. She has also been an integral part of Sweden’s team who earned the historic first women’s football Olympic silver medals for the country in the final of the Olympic Games in Rio last summer.

LTA Agency have continued a busy January by arranging a new international transfer. The 27-year-old Cameroon defender, Ysis Sonkeng has inked her first deal outside her country with Sundsvalls DFF in Swedish Elitettan where she will join her international compatriot Ajara.

Recent finalist of CAF Women`s AFCON 2016, Sonkeng comes from Louves Minproff de Yaounde where she won Cameroon Women`s Cup in 2016 and 2015. She has also represented her country in other international competitions such as FIFA Women’s World Cup in Canada 2015, African Women’s Championship in Namibia 2014 (also runner-up), and Summer Olympics in London 2012.

Ajara had an outstanding year 2016 as she became SDFF’s best goal scorer with 13 goals in 26 matches and was named player of the season. She capped the year by becoming the runner-up of the CAF Women’s AFCON 2016 with Cameroon National Team as she played full 90 min of 4 matches of the tournament including the final.

Following the AFCON, she was individually honored by the sultan of Bamoun in her native town of Foumban during the bi-annual cultural ceremony and was also received by the Cameroonian presidential couple in their palace along with her team mates.
