Australian Matildas midfielder Aivi Luik has joined Spanish side Sevilla FC on a one-year deal
The well-travelled midfielder returned to Spain’s Liga Iberdrola after a fifth Westfield W-League title won with Melbourne City FC earlier this year. Aivi’s first Spanish adventure was with Levante UD in the 2018/19 season. That season, she had played 26 league matches for the Valencia-based outfit before leaving for Norway’s Avaldsnes from where she returned to Melbourne City.
The 35-year-old playmaker brings with her a vast international experience to her new club as she has played in many different top clubs in Australia, the United States and Europe.
As one of Australian football’s most decorated players with five Westfield W-League Championship medals, Luik has also clinched a League title in Denmark, a Danish Cup Winner medal, three League and Cup titles in the USA, and was a runner-up of Norway’s Women’s Cup.
The Westfield Matildas veteran has earned 25 caps with Australia so far, helping her home country to qualify for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. She played in the 2019 World Cup in France, won 2019 FFA Cup of Nations, as well as the AFC Asian Cup back in 2010.
