Banda names NWSL Player of the Month

Orlando Pride striker Barbra Banda has won the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) Player of the Month award for May and she has also made the NWSL team of the month

The Copper Queen wins the prize after scoring a NWSL-high seven goals in just five matches played in the month of May. Her haul included a record of three fantastic braces scored this past month.

Her form contributed to Orlando’s perfect start to the 2024 season which includes the club’s current eight-game win streak, setting a new league record. Through Week 10, Orlando sits atop the league’s standings with 27 points in 11 matches.

Banda earned her first NWSL Player of the Month award in just seven consecutive league games after making her official debut with the club on April 20th. She has already tallied eight goals and two assists. Despite only playing 515 minutes this season, she is actually one of the league’s top scorers, having used her head to score four of her eight goals.

The NWSL Player of the Month, presented by EA Sports, is selected each month of the regular season by the NWSL Media Association, a collection of writers that cover the league on a consistent basis, and the NWSL’s on-air broadcast talent.

Ştefania Vătafu won a sixth title of the Belgium Super League, with RSC Anderlecht crowned the 2023–24 Belgian champion

RSC Anderlecht clinched a seventh straight Belgian top flight title on Sunday following a 4-2 win over Ladies Genk in front of more than 2,000 spectators.

It is the sixth league title won by the Romania international midfielder at the club.

The 30-year-old captain has been instrumental since joining the Belgium side six seasons ago, helping her club clinch goldware.

Les attaquantes Aissata Traoré de Guingamp (France) et Saratou Traoré du Fati Karagumruk (Turquie) ainsi que la défenseure de l’AR FAR (Maroc) Fatou Dembelé figurent dans la liste dévoilée par le Mali Football AWARDS. Ces trois joueuses font partir des cinq nominées en course pour le titre de meilleure joueuse de l’année 2023-24

Fatou Dembélé est également en lice pour le titre de meilleure joueuse en Afrique parmi quatre autres concurrentes.

La cérémonie des récompenses est prévue à Bamako, le Mercredi 29 Mai 2024 au centre international de conférence de Bamako (CICB).

Fatou Dembele et l’AS FAR ont remporté le championnat du Maroc de la saison 2023-24

La défenseure malienne transférée au cours de la saison à l’AS FAR en provenance de Fenerbahce – première division Turque, Fatou a décroché le titre de championne du Maroc avec son club.  

Grâce à 24 victoires, un nul et une défaite cette saison qui vient de s’achever, le club marocain termine la championnat en première place du classement et s’offre ainsi un 11ème titre de championnat.  

Fatou a participé a cette victoire avec 12 matchs joués, deux buts marqués et deux passes décisives

AS FAR est directement qualifié pour la prochaine Ligue des champions Africaine grâce à ce titre.

Irene Paredes has bagged a third domestic trophy with FC Barcelona this season following the team’s 2023–24 Spain Copa de la Reina victory

FC Barcelona has clinched the Copa de la Reina thanks to an 8-0 thrashing of Real Sociedad in Zaragoza yesterday. 

Irene played the full match of this Cup final to help her team complete the feat of four Cup titles in five years. It is her second Cup title in Spain. She won the first treble with the club in her first season with them in 2021-2022, and it was also FC Barcelona’s first treble in history.

The club triumphed the Super Cup in January, the League title last week, and the Spain Cup yesterday. They are now preparing for their fifth Champions League final next week.

Laura Rus, Estelle Gnaly, and Lilian Awuor have lifted the 2023–24 Liga 1 title with Farul Constanţa

Strikers Laura, Estelle, and goalkeeper Lilian have made history as they helped Farul Constanţa win their first-ever league title for Romania in only one season in the first league. 

The three LTA players helped Farul Constanta win the coveted Romanian championship title. Laura Rus, Estelle Gnaly and Lilian Awuor were instrumental to this milestone achievement. With two games left to play,  they have won the league after beating Universitatea Cluj 2-1 away on Sunday. Farul thus dethroned Universitatea Cluj, the reigning champion for the previous twelve years.

The Kenyan goalkeeper, Lilian has participated in every game since joining the club in February. She immediately cemented herself as the starting keeper after her performances. In ten games, she contributed to seven wins and two draws for them. Being the champion of Romania is Lilian’s first international trophy.

Ivorian striker Estelle Gnaly joined the club in March, she has featured in seven play-off matches and netted three goals. It is a great achievement for Gnaly who won her maiden trophy with her first club abroad.

Romanian veteran Laura Rus, went back home last May. She has already played in more than six counties. The experienced striker is the club’s key player. She has contributed to two goals during the play-off matches. It is her first league title won in her country.

Egyptian international midfielder Mahira Ali has finished her 2023–24 campaign in Egypt with a cup winners’ medal with Tutankhamun FC.

Mahira ended her season in style after TUT FC won the Egyptian Cup yesterday, in addition to the league title she won two weeks ago.

TUT FC lifted their second consecutive cup title after defeating Wadi Degla in the cup final.

Mahira delivered impressive performances to help Tutankhamun clinch the Egyptian Cup title after a 4-2 triumph over Wadi Delgla in the final yesterday. She played in the full cup final, in which she contributed with a goal and an assist.

After the double this season with TUT FC, Mahira now has two Egyptian League and two Cup titles among her achievements.

Veronica Boquete and Fiorentina finished the 2023–24 Serie A season in third place and thus clinched the third automatic Champions League place in Italy.

After a 2-2 tie with Inter, Fiorentina mathematically ensured third place in Serie A with two league games remaining. This booked them a spot in the upcoming Champions League.

Vero’s outstanding contribution to the away draw against Inter earned her the title of Woman of the Match. She scored a penalty and provided an assist as Fiorentina held Inter 2-2 in Serie A on Wednesday, qualifying for the next season’s Champions League.

Fiorentina’s captain played an important role in her team’s third-place finish in Serie A this year. With 22 games under his belt, the playmaker has already netted nine goals and eight assists for Fiorentina.

Irene Paredes’ Barcelona qualified for the 2023-24 Champions League final after a 2-0 win over Chelsea and 2-1 on aggregate in the semi-finals

A fourth European final beckons for the Spanish defender following Barcelona’s semi-final victory over the English giants.

Irene was in action for Barcelona as they progressed to the final of the Uefa Women’s Champions League, following a 2-0 semi-final, second-leg triumph over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Saturday. She also featured in their 1-0 first-leg loss against Chelsea a week ago.

The result means Barcelona are through to the fourth consecutive final of the competition, where they will slug it out with the Olympique Lyonnais on May 25 at San Mamés Barria (Bilbao).

Irene and her team mates will be looking to maintain their trophy won last season’s UEFA Women’s Champions League final against Wolfsburg, with the hope for Irene to lift her second Champions League trophy.

Banda opened her goal-scoring account in the USA National Women’s Soccer League, and she also won the Woman of the Match award

Zambian forward Barbra Banda scored her first goal for Orlando Pride in her second league game appearance.  After contributing to all three goals in the Orlando Pride 3-2 win over the Washington Spirit on Saturday night, Banda was named woman of the match. 

She scored the second goal, provided an assist in the first goal, and created a penalty to help Orlando beat the Washington Spirit 3-2 away during their second game of the season. 

She made her debut for Orlando as the 61st- minute substitute on April 20 in a 1-0 home win against San Diego Wave. Last Saturday, the 24-year-old earned her first start for the USA powerhouse just in her second appearance, and now she has scored her  first National Women’s Soccer League goal.
