Satarou Traore and Tereza Engesha are crowned the inaugural AFC Women’s Champions League champions with Wuhan
Malian midfielder Saratou and Kenyan striker Tereza wrote their names in the history books as they won the first-ever Asian Football Confederation Champions League for Wuhan Jiangda this season.
We can now count five LTA players in total who have already won the Champions League on two different continents, Europe and Asia.
- UEFA Women’s Champions League: Veronica Boquete, Irene Paredes, and Caroline Seger (former LTA player)
- AFC Women’s Champions League: Saratou Trore and Tereza Engesha.
China’s Wuhan FC clinched the AFC Women’s Champions League of 2025 dramatically, defeating Melbourne City FC of Australia 5-4 in a sudden death penalty shootout after the final ended 1-1 at the end of 120 minutes on Saturday.
Tereza and Saratou both participated in every game during the competition, scoring one goal each, and Tereza made one assist in the semifinal match. Tereza started the Champions League with her former club, Hyundai Steel Red Angels FC (Korea); with that, she also netted a goal in the group stage.
The win meant Wuhan Jiangda also sealed their place in the inaugural FIFA Women’s Champions Cup 2026.
