25 Jul 2022

South African international midfielder Leandra Smeda has joined Spanish second-tier side Dux Logroño

The 33-year-old midfielder penned a one-year contract with Dux Logroño. The Banyana Banyana star, who is among the top South African footballers in the history of the country, comes from UWC Ladies in the Premier League of South African women’s football.

She previously played for Famalicao in Portugal and Vittsjo in Sweden, where she helped the club win its first-ever medal, finishing third in the 2019 Damallsvenskan.

In 2018, Leandra made history by becoming the first South African to play in the Uefa Women’s Champions League with Lithuanian giants Gintra Universitetas.

Leandra made her 100th appearance for her country in a friendly international match against Japan in Fukuoka in November 2019. She represented South Africa in several top international competitions, including the 2016 Olympic Games in Brazil, the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup in France, and multiple CAF Women’s African Cup of Nations finals.
