South Africa international midfielder Refiloe Jane has inked a contract with Sassuolo until 2024
Women’s Africa Cup of Nations Champion, Refiloe signed for Sassuolo on a two-year deal to remain in Serie A after three seasons spent with AC Milan.
She became the first female player of her country to be transferred to a Serie A top club in September 2019 when she completed her move to AC Milan. During her stay with the Rossonere, she has played 52 games across all competitions, scoring 3 goals, helping the Serie A top flight to a second-place finish in the 2020/21 season and a third place finish in the other two seasons.
Prior to Italy she played in Australian W-League with Canberra United and other domestic sides, Mamelodi Sundowns and Vaal University of Technology.
Considered as one of the best midfielders in the South Africa Women’s National team, she has a lot of international experience with more than 110 caps.
Refiloe captained the Banyana Banyana squad that won the maiden Women’s Africa Cup of Nations Trophy in Morocco last month. She also reached the final of the 2018 Africa Cup of Nations held in Ghana. She played at the 2019 World Cup in France, first ever appearance for her country.
She has also featured at the 2014 African Women’s Championship in Namibia, the 2016 and 2012 Olympics games as well the 2012 African Women’s Championship where South Africa also reached the final and took part in multiple other international competitions.
