Irene through to Olympics third place match
Irene Paredes and Spain qualified for the Olympic Games bronze medal match. For their first-ever appearance at an Olympic tournament
The hunt for Olympic gold for the world champions has ended in the semi-finals tonight, where they lost 2-4 against Brazil.
However, the Spanish are still making it to the bronze medal battle despite their semi-final loss. Spain will face Germany in the battle for the bronze on Friday 9th, at 3:00 pm at Groupama Stadium.
Spain reached the semi-finals with a penalty shootout victory after a 2-2 draw against Colombia in the quarter. Irene’s last-minute goal allowed Spain to equalize and force extra time against Colombia before winning 4-2 on penalties.
They won the group stage with three wins out of three. They were in Group C along with Japan, Brazil, and Nigeria.
Spain is participating in an Olympic competition for the first time.
