Barbra Banda has been named African Women’s Player of the Year at the CAF Awards 2024 and featured in the CAF/FIFPro Women’s Best XI
Copper Queens and Orlando Pride striker Barbra Banda has won the CAF Women’s Player of the Year title.
Zambia’s Barbra has been crowned the 2024 African Footballer of the Year at the Confederation of African Football (CAF) awards ceremony in Marrakesh, Morocco.
The Zambian had a magnificent 2024 season with Orlando Pride, winning the USA National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) and NWSL Championship MVP.
Banda was the MVP in the USA National Women’s Soccer League, scoring 17 goals in 25 league games. She was instrumental as Orlando gracefully won the NWSL championship and the Shield title. The former Shanghai Shengli striker scored a hat trick against Australia at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, becoming the first player in women’s football to score three hat tricks at the Olympic Games.
The Orlando striker is the first Zambian player to win the award.
She has made history by becoming the first player from Africa to be voted into the FIFPRO Women’s World 11 following the unveiling of the team for 2024 on Monday.
She won the BBC Women’s Footballer of the Year 2024.
She also became the first African woman to finish in the top 12 of the Ballon d’Or.
