Cameroon star Ajara Nchout Njoya has signed a deal with the Spanish powerhouse Atlético de Madrid
The 27-year-old forward joined the Spain Primera division from a successful 3-season spell in Norway’s first division (Toppserien). In two seasons with Vålerenga, the striker recorded a total of 30 goals in 50 games. She bagged the top scorer title of the Norwegian league with 10 goals for Vålerenga in the recently-ended 2020 campaign helping the club to win their maiden domestic League and Cup double. She firstly spent a season with IL Sandviken where she was also the club’s top scorer. Remarkably, Ajara reached three Cup finals in her 3 years in Norway.
It is a big leap forward for the ”Indomitable lioness“ to one of the leading European clubs. At 27 years old, Ajara Nchout Njoya made history as the first-ever Cameroonian female player to join a historic big European club such as Atlético de Madrid – Spanish League champions three times in a row between 2017 and 2019 and runners-up last season.
Ajara’s Spain experience will expand her impressive professional career to a fifth foreign championship after Norway, Sweden, Russia, and the United States.
LTA Agency manager Anton Maksimov said: ‘It’s a huge achievement for a Foumban native like Ajara. I remember vividly meeting her in 2008 in Douala as a young girl aspiring to play professional football one day. She has gone a long way and worked very hard to arrive at where she is now.’
With 50 caps and 10 goals to her credit, Ajara played for Cameroon National Team in the final tournaments of two FIFA Women’s World Cups – France 2019 and Canada 2015, the London 2012 Olympic Games, and many other high-level international competitions. Ajara scored one of the best goals of the France 2019 World Cup later nominated by FIFA for the 2019 Puskas Award, and last year was named among the three finalists for the 2019 CAF Best Female Player of the Year Award.
LTA Agency congratulate Ajara on this important milestone in her career and wish her the best of luck at her new club.
