Zambia and Orlando Pride striker  Barbra Banda has been nominated for the BBC Women’s Footballer of the Year award

Barbra Banda has been shortlisted for the BBC Women’s Footballer of the Year 2024 award.

Building on an outstanding performance with Zambia in the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, Barbra has had a highly successful 2024 so far highlighted by her immediate impact with Orlando Pride in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) in the USA, which she joined from Shanghai Shengli in the Chinese Women’s Super League. Despite joining her new club late on in the NWSL regular season, she is currently second in the NWSL goal scorers’ charts with 13 goals scored but more importantly she has helped fire the Orlando outfit to their first ever NWSL Shield – Regular Season Championship win with three matches to spare in the regular season and a guaranteed first-ever post season home play-off match.

On the international level, Barbra once again starred at the Olympic Games. She had scored two unprecedented consecutive hat-tricks at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021, and she followed this up with another four goals at Paris 2024 final tournament including a first-half hat-trick against Australia.

She is also nominated for the 2024 Women’s Ballon d’Or award.

We are delighted to see Barbra as a candidate on the five-player shortlist for the only 100% publicly voted individual prize in the world of women’s football.

Voting closes at 09:00 GMT on Monday, 28 October 2024 and the winner will be announced on Tuesday, 26 November on BBC World Service and the BBC Sport website and app.
